Freshly filled lips can look fuller than you expected. Swelling, tenderness, and bruising are common after filler, so the mirror on the first evening is a poor way to judge the final shape. Give the area time to recover, and know which changes call for prompt medical help.
The first day
You may notice swelling or tenderness soon after the injections. Keep pressure off your lips and avoid massaging them unless your treating clinician specifically tells you to. A cool compress may help with swelling if your clinician recommends it. Use a clean cloth between the compress and your skin, and follow the instructions you receive at the visit.
Most everyday activities can resume when you leave. Put intense exercise on hold until the next day at a minimum. The American Academy of Dermatology advises waiting until the next day for strenuous activity. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons gives a general range of 24 to 48 hours to limit swelling and bruising.
The next few days
Swelling and bruising vary from person to person. Your lips may look uneven while one side is more swollen than the other. Check how they feel as well as how they look: ordinary tenderness should gradually improve. Contact the treating clinician if pain or swelling is getting worse, if you see an area that concerns you, or if recovery is not following the plan discussed at your visit.
If you have an event coming up, leave room for bruising to resolve. The AAD says minor filler side effects often clear within 7 to 14 days, sometimes sooner. A photo taken immediately after treatment records the starting point; it does not show the settled result.
Changes that need immediate attention
Do not wait for a scheduled follow-up if any of those symptoms appear. A person with vision changes or signs of a stroke needs emergency care even if they have also contacted the clinic.
When should you assess the result?
Let early swelling settle before deciding whether the volume or shape feels right. If you still have a concern as recovery progresses, share it with your treating clinician rather than pressing on the lips or trying to change the shape yourself. The product used and your own recovery can affect what happens next.
You can read about lip filler appointments in Renton and compare the published prices: a half syringe starts at $350, and a full syringe is $500. Your appointment should include a review of the specific product, your medical history, and aftercare instructions.
